Answering Machine - Not Exactly Though
Hi, I was just wondering how I would implement a phone responder. You know those things that pick up and ask you a question and then ask you to press a number (1 for yes, 2 for no, # to repeat), or enter a number and so forth! If you know what i'm talking about, would you know how to implement one in VB or is it impossible? I'd like to mess around with that before I start learning C++. Because i'm getting kinda bored :S!

- Google is your friend! Search before posting!
- Name your thread appropriately... "I Need Help" doesn't cut it!

- Allways Include the Name and Line of the Exception (if one is occuring!)
- If it is relevant state the version of Visual Studio/.Net Framwork you are using (2002/2003/2005)

what is the hardware that you want to use? is it one of those (old?) voice-fax-modems? most of the stuff like this is driven by standard AT comands, but you need a list of them from your modem's manual or something. TAPI is useful, but in my opinion extremely complicated for basic functions like you described.
interpreting frequencies and stuff is done by a DSP chip inside that machine, you should normally set it in DTMF listen mode somehow (AT commands again) and it will report the strings of DTMFs received over your serial connection.
if you get serious about this, feel fre to ask, i kinda have a lot of experience in telecom and voice apps... (i wish i could get back there again, i havent touched that for the last few months, hehehe). never did that on voice modems though, there are specialized boards for that.
there are 2 reasons why i leave my work unfinished:
(1) i'm getting old.
