i have an athlon xp..does this mean i have to write assembly different to the one i'd write if i had a pentium?- i am a total beginner, and am wondering if the tutorials would work with my cpu.. thanks

Core op-codes are the same. MMX, SSL are the same. FPU op-codes are the same.
SSL2 is not supported, but there is 3dNow! and 3dNow!+.

Of course, if you are here for optimization, different assembly might be faster on an AMD.
