Video card problem (S3 Inc Trio3d Rev. 2) - crashes the computer when going to DOS...
When I try launching DOS applications in windows it crashes, either grey scrolly lines or a black screen.
Anyone help?
Also is does it on "Mp3 gain" but I don't know why.
Please help ASAP.
Thanks

Well...firstly your video card sounds sketchy, but also what OS are you running? Lots of old DOS games don't work right under 2K/XP. And nothing runs right under WinME.

Perhaps a reinstall is in order?

S3's older drivers had tons of issues.... (yours truly being the former "proud" owned of a Savage4). Look on Windows Update for a better one?
siyan: I'm curious as to why you describe the card as sketchy And nothing runs right under ME... That's a downright lie. You can get calc running without too many troubles.

I've never heard of it, probably because S3 hasn't been a major player in the video market for a LONG time now. So it sounded really old...

Oh really? I retract my comment then. I'll bet notepad runs darned well too .

Of course it's old -- but 2D is 2D

1. What's your processor speed.
2. What's your budget.
3. What kind of games?

proc. speed is a bit low, I know my celly 533 couldn't even keep up with the geforce 2 mx 200 in it. If you do go for 850mhz, I'd say go for gf2 gts (dirt cheap now I hear), or radeon 9000 pro if you're willing to shell out a bit more.

you should really look into a faster processor. throw out some more cash (maybe $400 Canadian...whatever htat'll buy you in the UK I don't know) and you can get a new motherboard/processor/memory/video card and easily surpass your current setup
and plus you can sell your current setup....
i'd suggest:
Soltek 75FRN2L motherboard $125
AMD Athlon 2000+ $94
Semi-Generic PC2700 512MB $64
Radeon 9100 128MB $135
Comes out to $418 Canadian (prices are from NCIX.com + specials newsletter)
A tad over $400 but you can drop it to a 64MB 9100 and it'll go under that. Or get a cheaper motherboard (K7S5A I think supports SDRAM too, so then you can keep your ram but SDR is pants).
So, a "value-packed" upgrade is feasable.

Truth be told, that WOULD make your computer quite godlike. At least a lesser deity

Well - I have a 2 computer network. For now I wanna upgrade this BABY and then once this is maxed out - save for a new computer and network this BABY as the 2nd computer.
By the way.... anyone know of any solutions - I currently use a PROXY to share my internet, but it slows my computer up. Any suggestions? (I want to still be able to play a game called HoverRace - so a router might not be a good suggestion)
