Redhat Linux 8.0 ==> Is it really that crap?

We have just installed a fresh version of Redhat Linux 8.0, but apparently it doesn't support ipchains.

    Is this true?

I'm trying to share the cable connection (which is hosted on the linux box) to other systems, but it seems it's not possible without recompiling the OS!!!

I find it incredible that Redhat, who are probably the industry leaders in Linux distributions can make such a big cock-up!

    Anyone got any ideas, please?

    Regards,

    Paul.

RH 8 really was a big cock up. Especially their GUI additions trying to woo Desktop users. Turned out to be buggy, crashy, and a resource hog!

    Utter crappola

I dont know if 9 will be any better.

    Linux..

I actually downloaded Linux RedHat 8 and for a while had it dual booted on my machine just to see what everyone was talking about, but found that version of Linux had issues with my computer monitor. My monitor would shut off everytime I got past the Linux preload screen... go figure. Stupid thing was it would work great on any monitor but the one I owned.

I am still interested in perhaps putting Linux on my comp again when they get that bug worked out, or I switch monitors, but are there any suggestions for the best version out there, or patches for monitor issues like the one I have?

    Finally....

We've done it! Manual NAT does the trick, with some obvious DNS changes to the clients.

Now all the client systems connect to the net and can have direct control of stealthed ports and even port forwarding...

Get an RPM version of FireStarter from SourceForge. It really does work a treat. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE DNS CORRECT THOUGH... AS IT WON'T BE MUCH HELP WITHOUT IT!

    Regards,

    Paul.
