Can anyone detect if .NET is installed in my computer?
I like to install .NET in my office computer. But my computer is hooked to a large network. I like to know if I install .NET in my computer, is there any way that network administrator may catch that I've installed .NET in my machine?
You may assume that network administrator will not come to see my machine. But he will monitor any signal sent from my computer's port. For example, I know that if I install SQL Server 2000 in my computer, it is possible to detect that it is installed by capturing signal from UDP port. Is there any such possibility for .NET as well?
Thanx

License issue only. Space no matter. To install it on a office computer, the office should ideally have the license for it.

.NET itself doesnt send out 'signals'
.NET is free, so I dont know what the issue with icensing would be.

Yes, only the .NET framework is free
The IDE for developing .NET program isn't free
I think if I install without MSDE it won't send any signal probably.
Is it right?

There are apps that let you detect what has been installed on computers in your network. Forgot what they called them. We used to have it here, but they allowed us the developers to uninstall that stuff since we are always installing stuff.

They are client server applications, right? Let me know an example of them plz.

I think MSDE installs itself as a service, so network admins can easily connect to your computer via computer management and detect it even if it doesnt send any signal. And for the whole program (VS.NET), if they can connect to your registry (I know they can but not sure about the hives they can see) they maybe able to detect that too.

Actually your money is going towards buying things like 10 full copies of Visual Studio .NET.
