    Smile Windows & Unix...

    I got a few questions on Windows & Unix.

    (Introduction)
    * Operating System Interface
    * What are System Calls giving brief example
    * Basic similarities and diffrences between unix and windows with respect to system calls and their interface

    (Detailed Information)
    * Process Handling (Example of 2000/XP vs Unix/Linux)
    * Memory Management (Example of 2000/XP vs Unix/Linux)
    * Input & Output (Example of 2000/XP vs Unix/Linux)
    * File Management (Example of 2000/XP vs Unix/Linux)
    * Security (Example of 2000/XP vs Unix/Linux)

    This are for our final exam and we are to study the above mentioned questions from whatever resource we can. So any links to website, white papers, documentation will be much appreciated...

    Cheers...

    You're probably best off asking this on a Linux/Unix board, since long-time users typically know a boatload.

    Parksie probably knows quite a bit about this though.

    I can only answer the 1st one and give loose info for the rest.

    Look up these topics:
    - grsecurity
    - ext2, ext3, journalling filesystems (these are all used on *nix), ntfs, fat32 (these two are used on Windows)
    - stdin, stdout
    - the standard filesystem structure (/, /usr, /tmp, /var, /etc, /home, etc.)

    I'm not a Linux developer, only a User, but still it does force you to know some things.
    All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.
    (Just a heads-up)
