Windows XP problems
My PC has been running fine until recently. Things take a longer time than usual to open such as txt documents or winamp and word. Its not a big problem but it can be quite annoying. I have defragged and all that but it is still slow. The only thing i can think of is that i was at a LAN recently and then thats when I think it started.
AMD XP 1600+
Jetway mobo
40 gig HDD 7200rpm
512 mb DDR
i think thats all youll need.
Thanks.

Hi M8.
Next time it starts to slow down, check in task manager to see what process is causing your kernel to be so slow. Look for a high CPU usage down the list of processes, and you'll usually find your problem.
If it's related to your lan, then you probably have a third party app trying to connect to a network which will eventually time-out. Again, remove the process and it should be fine.
If you don't know the process name or can't relate it to anything, don't stop it. You could cause your system to crash (temporarily)
Regards,
Paul.

It doesn't seem to slow down, it just takes ages for anything to open. Once its running its all fine, it used to be that I would click something and it would open instantly but not anymore. The CPU doesn't go up to 100% or anything, its like it pauses for 10 seconds and then opens things.
