Is cigarette smoke harmful to the screen of a laptop?

Uhm... aren't you contradicting yourself? Can you elaborate?

It's likely to make the screen dirty, but unless there are already serious cracks in the screen then the smoke can't get into it - and so can't cause any damage as such.

Exactly what si_the_geek has stated. Probably will make the screen dirty but doubts the smoke will damage anything. Far as i know labtops don't have internal fans so there is no risk of the smoke getting in. I wouldnt smoke in a room with a reg desktop computer running though. My friend smokes cigs and other substances in his room with the computer running. When we took the cover off the case all the components were covered in resin and tar.

I'd be willing to bet that a lit cigarette applied directly to the screen would cause some trouble.

Now I can't say this from experience, since I don't smoke, but suppose you were sitting with your laptop in front of you, smokin' away, and fell asleep, causing you to fall forwards, burn a hole through the screen, and electrocute the cat that was sleeping in your lap. Now wouldn't that be something?

LCD screens are pretty easy to clean.

I couldn't imagine that ! Smoking cig never causes you to sleep . It energize your brain .

Well , ask me about these stuff . Cigarette has no effects on your screen .

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll gather that smoking is safe, since in all my experience, I've never fallen over and electrocuted my cat.

How do you deal with ashes? They shouldn't be entirely innocuous (except in small quantities). I had a professor one time who smoked so much that the walls of his office, once white, were stained a yellow-brown color. I would say that this might be bad for a computer, but it would probably be similar to coating the board in a lacquer, which shouldn't be too bad a thing.
