Msn Sux!!! Use Aim!!!!
I cannot believe that MSN Messenger has 6.5 Million users. I am one of those users, but that is just to notify me of email. Aol Instant Messenger is much better. With it, you can do alot more.
-You can have private buddy chats as well as join public chat rooms.
-You can also be notified of pop mail.
-You can choose the way your text is displayed on the other users' machines.
-You can have bold/italic text. The smilies are big enough to actually see.
-You can send pictures (in the window, not as a file transfer)
-File downloads are represented by an icon that u can rite-clik to open (instead of searching for wherever MSN stored it)
-You can have a buddy icon (avatar)
-Members can have profiles that others can view (within AIM, not on the net (which btw, MSN pages are SLOW)
-You can expand and collapse buddy groups, as well as ad members to multiple groups and create your own groups
-You can give annoying members warnings, which limit their capabilities temporarily
-You can add a member to your buddy list without them knowing that you added them.
-You can easily IM a member even if he is not on your list
-You can choose whether all members can IM you(except for those that you block), only those on your list, or none at all.
-You can block buddies
-You can search for members by common interest
-You can specify common interests so others can search for u
-Your buddy list and preferences can be saved to file
-You can have auto-login just by clicking on systray icon
-You can store passwords for multiple usernames
-You dont need a new hotmail account for each username
-You can have automatic custom away messages
-More people use AIM than any other service - MORE PPL TO CHAT WITH!!!!!!
There are much more advantages to AIM. Try it out at http://www.aim.com to see them!!!
AND PLEASE, TELL ANYONE WHO IS NOT USING IT THAT IT IS THE BEST (and most popular) INSTANT MESSENGER SOFTWARE OUT THERE!!!

Monday Morning Lunatic
I use MSN because that's what all my friends from school are on. There's no point me moving to what is, I agree, a superior product if I don't have anyone to talk to.
I refuse to tie my hands behind my back and hear somebody say "Bend Over, Boy, Because You Have It Coming To You".

Someone should make a VB-World Messanger. Considering all the programming talent here, if we all worked together it wouldn't be too hard to make a seriously kick ass program (100% better then MSN, 50% better then ICQ, and atleast 10% better then AIM). Then everyone would use ours instead

Why not just use existing things? I don't want to keep loading stuff into the tray - I run out of resources pretty quick as it is.
PS: AIM for me is sillynameshere

AIM only uses, suprisingly, 57 KB of memory when just idle. But there's got to be a security flaw SOMEWHERE in the program, which is why I never use it. That, and because I don't have any friends.

It's not memory I'm concerned about - it's resources.

I think this would be a good idea, aim can be annoying sometimes, and some chat rooms, in addition to the forums.. maybe get help a little faster. with all the people here, it shouldnt be too hard.

The only annoying problem with msn I have come across is that it doesn't block people who aren't on your contact list from messaging you. I keep get people who I haven't added to my list sending me links to porn.

MSN is FAR from perfect thats for sure, and even if AIM is better I'll never use it personally because it is part of AOL, who is the devil. Now having said that, I must say that MSN can do most of the things on your list that you said it can't including the following:
-You can have private buddy chats as well as join public chat rooms. (Well public conversations but not chat rooms)
-You can also be notified of pop mail.
-You can choose the way your text is displayed on the other users' machines.
-You can have bold/italic text. The smilies are big enough to actually see.
-File downloads are represented by an icon that u can rite-clik to open (instead of searching for wherever MSN stored it) (There is in the conversation right after its downloaded, other than that the menu has a link to 'wherever MSN stored it')
-You can expand and collapse buddy groups, as well as ad members to multiple groups and create your own groups
-You can add a member to your buddy list without them knowing that you added them. (It can't do that but can you say 'Stalker' )
-You can choose whether all members can IM you(except for those that you block), only those on your list, or none at all.
-You can block buddies
-You can have auto-login just by clicking on systray icon
Like I said its not perfect but I just wanted to set the record straight, one more:
The only annoying problem with msn I have come across is that it doesn't block people who aren't on your contact list from messaging you. I keep get people who I haven't added to my list sending me links to porn.

You know what I hate about all those IM utilities... They have WAY to many features. I used to use ICQ, but when I updated it one day, it added stuff into my Outlook menus, IE menus....etc...
I don't want it part of everything I run. I want to just type messages when my friends are online. That and chat. That would be the ONLY features I need. Also, it should only run when I want it to, not all the time.
I no longer use IM clients because they are all in this stupid feature race. Email still does it for me. I don't need to be bothered every five minutes.

Trillian isnt that great. Personally I prefer msn messenger, but all my friends use AIM. I use both msn and AIM and dont find it to be an incovenience. I like msn messenger cauz of the way it notifies you when there is news, email, or an instant message. And how it automatically sets you as away after about 5 minutes of idleness.

msn has video chat.. which is cool..
AIM is actually not allowed to build video chat into its software yet due to some restriction by the FCC.. but they are currently trying to get it overturned because of programs like msn and yahoo that do have it.. but when that motion was passed on AIM.. msn and yahoo didn't have video messengers yet..
msn is a little cluttered for me.. but both aim and msn seem to give me problems when trying to connect to people to talk or send files.. always we get firewall problems... the only person im able to send files with no problem is my friend whos got a mac

AOL as an internet provider sucks, but AIM doesnt. Arent there still millions of ways to get around the parental controls, or have they updated that? What about opening a normal IE window and browsing through there, i dont think it can block that? I havnet used AOL in years, so im probably not too up to date with it

If there are ways of getting round the parental controls please, please tell me!!!! (im willing to beg.) Plus the IE explorer dosen't work on an aol account unless it is set on 18+ and as mine is set on 16-17 (young adult) every time i wanna do something like download on win mx or chat through msn messenger i have to get my mom to sign on and she will only let me go on here name for so long. Any way while im asking does anybody know anything about getting round time limits as well?
