"I will not listen PERIOD Not to you, not to...

    ..the world!"
The United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHCR) has sharply criticised Israel for its treatment of Palestinians and for its settlement of the occupied territories.
Meeting in annual session in Geneva, the commission approved four resolutions condemning what it termed Israel's repressive measures and calling for an end to Israeli settlement of the occupied territories.

Only the United States opposed all four resolutions.
    ....
    ....
A motion from African and Arab countries condemned Israel for carrying out what it called mass killings of Palestinians.

This was passed by 33 votes to five, with 15 abstentions.
    ....
A further motion from the European Union expressed grave concern at the continued Israeli settlement of the occupied territories and condemned Israel's plan to build a security wall dividing settlers from Palestinians.

This was passed by 50 votes to one.

The palestinians have a right to be angry at their treatment, but they have some fairly deplorable methods of voicing their anger. On the other hand, I was under the impression that most of the suicide attacks are in the occupied territories. I can't suggest a better course of action for them, as bad as the present course is.

    What are their options:
    1) Bend over and take it.
    2) Proclaim loudly their anger, but do nothing (and be ignored)
    3) Wait for Israel to give them something without any incentive.
    4) Attack soldiers as if at war.
    5) Attack civilians in the occupied territories
    6) Attack civilians across Israel and the territories
    7) Attack everybody at will
    8) Non-violent occupation of the occupied lands.

They seem to have mostly chosen option 5 with occaisional 6. Some people would prefer 1, 2, or 3, but all are unproductive and unrealistic. Some folks cite option 4 in other areas. It is a strange idea that if you feel your cause sufficiently important that you are willing to die for it, you should throw your life away without making any gains. The palestinians don't have the weaponry to wage anything like conventional war against the Israeli army, so choosing option 4 is about as effective as 1, but keeps their blood pressure down around 0.

I'm glad they haven't tried 7, though at one point, this was sort of happening in Lebanon, and now Lebanon is no longer occupied. Lets not learn from that.

Eight is interesting, and would actually work by making the right wing in Israel appear so unappealing that they would lose the majority of their support from the American Jewish community. However, that would take pretty phenomenal courage, since the first few thousand would be pretty sorely abused.

When dealing with this conflict, it is good to remember that there is a strong element on each side that doesn't want this conflict to end without the annihilation of the other side.
