Yes you have to use a manifest. In VS.NET 2003, its as simple as putting Application.EnableVisualStyles() in main. I've been using the final version of VS.NET 2003, and I must say I'm impressed.

will they have a service pack for VS.net 2002 that will update the syntax or anything, or do you have to go out and get VS.net 2003?

Also, what is the difference between VS.net 2002 and 2003? Any graphical improvements to the GUI (i'm always interested in that for some reason..lol)?

There will be a service pack available sometime after April 24. If you are a registered user of VS.NET 2002 and you dont want to download the service pack, you can purchase VS.NET 2003 for $29 from MS. The final version is already available to MSDN subscribers. There are minor graphical improvement, but the code improvement is worth is weight in gold.

There is also the compact framework included plus J#. The IDE is faster. Also the compiled exes loads faster too.

Which launch are you attending (where)?
I am going to one in Salt Lake City, not sure on the date though...

Oh ya, if you do go, make sure you put your name in for all the drawings. Last year I won a MSDN universal subscription. That kicked ass! Although, I did get taxed on the 2800 dollars it was worth. That blew the big one.

hmm, this is not a warez board.
I have allready seen the Longhorn and it sucks.
Its just and new XP version (also the windows shows that its win XP)

The problem is that the beta has a lot of bugs at this moment and that many new functions are not build in yet.

So, why looking for an alpha leak if its still full of bugs.
Wait for the First BETA Release and then order the official beta at microsoft.

You can better install the .NET 2003 Server (also get it for free at microsoft ), its running real fine.

The only problem i have with .NET server is that its using .NET Framework 1.1 and my VS.NET (2002) is using 1.0 but after uninstalling and reinstalling the ASP.NET after VS.NET is installed solves the problem

Yeah i my own Windows .net server at school. My teacher let me use one of the computers. It's pretty nice.

Will the beta version of longhorn be free like Windows .net? Also, does anyone know when it will be released?

I allready seen the longhorn running and its looks allmost exactly the same as XP.
Also when booting, and in the os, it says XP.

Longhorn is just the Codename of the new XP.
At this moment there are to many bugs in the Longhorn to use it for development.

I love .NET server, for workstations i still use Windows 2000 (i think its much safer, and when not using media, you dont need XP)

If you want .NET Server at home, just goto microsoft and request the Canidate Release 2 for free, or just buy the boot Introducing Windows Server 2003, the book includes .NET Server Canidate Release 2 Standard

I must say .... i have never seen an os running as well as the .NET server. All my win2k server are allready migrated to the .NET server.

Also for .NET Development i'm running VS.NET (still 2002 ) on the .NET Server. (To get a free copy of VS.NET just buy some MSPress Books, trial versions are included)

Yeah i have a copy of windows .net server RC1 and RC2. It's awesome.

What is the difference between Longhorn and XP then? Just that side bar?

Why doesnt anyone like XP? XP is just Windows 2000 with graphical updates and maybe a few updates to the core components. Win2k's version is NT 5.0 and XP is NT 5.2..it's not that much different.

Well, i seen in the longhorn the booting of pc is slower as xp but its like a little movie playing, so very beutifull, also when shutting down.

The display config is totally changed (but not working yet)
Next to that i dint see large changes in the windows.

a big improvement for developers is that like in .NET server .NET Framework 1.1 is part of the os.

    Why nobody likes XP???
    1. XP has some major bugs (can be resolved with patches)
    2. XP is a paradise for hackers, security of XP is 0 even when there is a build in firewall (what nobody seems to use)
    3. XP gets slow after few weeks running (microsoft says that because XP must run on P3 700mhz with 512Ram, most people dont have that)
    4. XP seems to have a bug with login off users on a Win2k Server, When login of and try to login as a other user, mostly it doesnt work, also when working on the server, you get a lot of server is busy errors
    5. XP is for home users, to watch movies, listn music, playing games ......

Conclusion...... XP is just NT that the have a client friendly look and is easy to use. XP is a kind of mix of ME and 2k

Windows2K is still the best Network client os i know.
Its not made for video, audio, games ..... so less resources are needed to run the system. Windows 2K is also optimized for havy application or background applications like services. XP is NOT.

    ===

For the longhorn ...... just wait on the first canidat release, i hope it will also run as well as the .NET Server.
If you wanna run XP, but a firewall between it
