    Computer Not Shutting Down

    I have WinXp Pro Build 2600 and if i install SP1 my computer does not shut down just restarts Why?

    there were no errors in the install.
    Tips:
    • Google is your friend! Search before posting!
    • Name your thread appropriately... "I Need Help" doesn't cut it!
    • Always post your code!!!! We can't read your mind!!! (well, at least most of us!)
    • Allways Include the Name and Line of the Exception (if one is occuring!)
    • If it is relevant state the version of Visual Studio/.Net Framwork you are using (2002/2003/2005)

    There is a registry setting called Powerdown on shutdown or something like that...Can't remember the exact value but I did on my friends PC who has the same problem...

    bad for you then bcos those software meant to be shutdown properly...everyone can do it and its not wise to do so as windows can crash sometimes...It did once b4 5 years ago bcos of this kinda habit of mine...

    The said could be said about your "sentence".

    ACPI = Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. An Operating System (OS) that supports this interface can receive computer hardware events such as the power and reset buttons, if the motherboard also supports it.

    When you click the power button, windows will do a quick shut down.

    I configured that in power options . I have been doing like this since 1 year ago and with no problems .

    Damn...There was a problem with my Graphics Card driver in Win98 so I have so use 2000 and I can't all the games I wanted to play...

    The problme was the windows didn't shutdown when I press Start->Shutdown and I have to hit the Power button...I thought this is going to crash my HDD so I quit playing games I like but I think I have an option now...

    wrack - Tried ur solution but it did not work

    I goto start > Shutdown > shutdown

    its a pain in the a** to flip the powersupply switch all the time, some one HELP!
