    SQL 2000 problems

    Anyone had any problems when trying to connect to a SQL 2000 instance it just keeps connecting to the root server?

    Hi beasty1711

    We have sort of solved it.

    We have apps that pick up the server name form the registry.

    These have always worked in the past on root or instances of servers. For some reason on this site the apps seemed to ignore the instance name and connect to the root.

    We tried changing the server name to IP address and this has now worked. SHould not be a big issue as this is only a test server and the eventual productive system will only have the initial install.

    Still a little bizarre though
