    Unhappy Vb Criticism....

    Hey guys!
Just to puts out whats in my heart...

Geez, I am tired to see people in my university or in download sites being agressive with vb... They are always making jokes with vb, telling that is a language of weekend programmers, or its for kids, that vb sucks... That delphi owns vb... That who make vb applications are not programmers, thats to instable..Its not for the real world...

I cant see all this bad things in vb... Because everything that I intended to make for my clients.. every problem that appeared in my (young hehehe) life that required an application solution, vb worked very well... in all enviroments.. desktop, internet, servers, working with a lot of databases, creating asp/html pages...

I just cant see why they keep being hostile with vb programmers in my country... Maybe its because of microsoft... Ok, microsoft isnt the best thing in world, nor even windows, but for what they intended to make.. I think its ok... Theres no perfect application.. Every application have their problems...

And another thing that I dont understand is that have more jobs looking for vb programmers in my country than delphi (that are the people that say more bad things about vb)! If its so bad, why they look for so much vb?

Sometimes I fell like being so dumb programmer that I nor even can see this all bad things about vb... Like, that I have lost my time learning and enjoying something that will never be approved by other professionals of my area...

    Uou..

    I feel better now.. heheh

Sorry for took your time with my whining...

    Thanks,

    Elminster

dont worry. i had huge projects, extremely mission-critical, written in vb only, that are still working every here ant there. in fact i am a former c++ programmer converted to vb, just because it is so simple do do a lot of stuff. i still write c++ dll's every once in a while, for the nitty-gritty things, but i dont feel like using c++ for user interfaces anymore. anyways, i dont think i would have known vb so well if i wouldnt know c++. there are a lot of things that i can explain to myself just because i know how data is represented internally - and this is something that the vb documentation tries to hide from the user, to make it simpler.
there are 2 reasons why i leave my work unfinished:
    (1) i'm getting old.

This probably belongs in the chit-chat forum, but:

Each language has it's own place. I have done VB, HTML, ASP, Java, Assembly and a little cobal and C.

I do mostly VB because it works well for my situation. I work in the IS department of a restaurant company. We have a tiny IS budget and not a lot of time to work on projects. For example, we use a program called Time Manager in our restaurants. Each restaurant has a folder on our network. Yesterday I wrote a program in VB to go out and modify a specific database of the Time Management software in each restaurants folder. Took me about 1/2 an hour in VB. The program will probably only be used once, but it saved about 40 man hours from having our support techs having to copy each database to thier computers manually and using an archaic dos program to do it.

VB is fast and easy and it definatly has it's place (as do the other languages)
"Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Diaper-Head Boy! (there by my name!) Yes, Diaper-Head Boy, who disguised as my son, Seth, fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice and terrorizing my house!

Resistance is futile, you will be compiled . . . Please!

Delphi is generally more popular in Europe than the US. It's often more powerful than VB, especially in database apps, but VB offers good integration w/MS products, especially Office products.

I agree with salvelinus-Delphi is common in Europe-especially in the UK-where many magazines in that country and Europe have tutorials about it.
