Windows freezes
Hi there
Since a few days my windows XP is acting stange...
When i open an application like VB, Word, Access, Frontpage and i want to open an document, the window freezes and will be active again after +/- 1 minute.
It starts freezing after the Common Dialog (Open file) pops-up and i clicked on an folder. After that minut it will show the content of the folder, but when i click an subfolder it will happend again.
When browse with Windows explorer i got no problems at all.
Any idea why it is, or how to solve that?

Check that you only have what you need running at startup.

Take out the stick of RAM that you had in there at the beginning, and put in the new RAM you bought. Alternatively, search for memtest86 and run it.

Just bought a new harddisk, man that really speeds up my pc... Booting WinXP takes only 18 seconds... i had an 5400rpm Maxtor, now i bought a 7200rpm/8MB Cache. If ur pc is slow, my advice is to hang an 7200 disk in it.

I guess your happeniess won't last long if you were like me . I remember when I bought a new HD with speed of (ultra 7500bb) , after two or three months I noticed considerable slowness . I don't know exactly why , some told me that formating and partitioning can affect HDs but I don't believe that to some extent .

I'll keep that in my mind, i heard the same story that many times formating an harddisk can decrease performance
