RPCSS error - when installing Office 2000

    Need Urgent Replies

A friend of mine has windows 98 as his OS and tried installing Office 2000.
After inserting the Installation disk into the drive he got a mssg to restart his PC before the actual installation process began.
After the computer rebooted he go the following error mssg "RPCSS - This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists contact the vendor. Exception c06d007fh in module url.dll at 0177:7178e883"

Each time he reboots his PC he gets this error, this error stops his windows from loading any further, he can't actually gain access to the desktop he gets this error before the desktop loads up.

Please advise on how to fix...I dont know if he can load up safe mode...I need to take him a solution for monday...and cant ask him any questions in the meanwhile.

Try booting into safe mode, I think you press F8 during the boot up to get the menu. I am not sure what to do after that though. You can get an office uninstaller from Microsoft to remove it and try again. You may have to update the windows installer to ver 2. also.
PC performance buffs have long measured hardware advances using a few simple metrics: Is it faster? Is it bigger? Does it have more blinky lights?
