    Unhappy This is risky [Resolved]

I want to convert one of my FAT32 partitions into NTFS but I'm afraid this would erase all my data.
I did used a command in win2000pro on another partition and it worked without any error (without deleting any data).
I can't remember that command if anyone knows please post it here .

You can convert FAT32 to NTFS quite easily. You should be able to just right-click on the drive name and go to Properties, then convert from there. (I don't have either XP or any FAT32 drives, so I'm going from memory).

However, it is far, far, better to backup your data, then reformat as NTFS. The conversion frequently messes up the sizing, so it *works* and no data is lost, however, it fragments very easily, resulting in inferior performance.

The problem is that I don't have more space and data size is more than 13 GB . This means I have to buy more than 20 Cds or buy new HD which is over my budget !

I guess I should try it on another Partition and see the result

Thank you for your post !

When right click the volume , there's no Convert option ! What OS are you talking about ?

I thought XP had something like that.

It could be under Computer Management. Come on, do a little research Google, Windows help, anything

I've called my friend to bring his HD to copy all my data and after I finish conversion , I restore it back . . I'll make some tests on it before conversion .

I wish I knew this before ! Partition Magic can convert volumes to NTFS without losing any 1B . It can be safely done with no worries .

We already knew the conversion was possible. I'm just saying that you *shouldn't* because it's inefficient.

I did. AFAIK XP should be able to do it itself.
