permissions problem
I have used these forums so much for programming with great success, lets try out the network gurus.
I have an application running on windows 2000 advanced server. A user was able to move files remotely into a folder wherupon the contents of these folders could be seen via the web. It was working correctly up to yesterday. Now the permisions for these newly created child folders only say say 'administrator' while the parent folder says 'administrator, everyone' like it is supposed to. I have checked the box to propagate permisions to child folder but when new folders are created they only have administrator access.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance from a server newbie!!

Remove all the permissions, then right click the top level folder & re-add the permissions, a box should appear saying do you want this setting to apply to all sublevel folders beneath the one you're on & you can just hit yes to that one...

I have tried that various different ways. Works great on the folders that already exist under the parent, its just that 100's of new folders are created every day, i need these new ones to inherit the pernmissions automatically like they should. Man, this is frustrating because it was working fine last week and no one here will fess up to mucking around with the server.
I can see why some animals eat their young.

Perhaps somewhere properties for that folder have been given explicitly and its told not to inherit permissions ?

I checked the properties of the parent folder under the 'Advanced' section. checked the box "Reset permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions" and allowed it to reset all child folders that exists at the current time. That works fine for the problem because i check any child folder and it has the proper permissions set.
Yet, still, newly created folders say they inherit parent permissions but do not.
I have even deleted the parent folder and re-created it with permissions, then allowed the app to run and create the new child folders, no dice.

Sounds like someone's been messing with security policies or something...
