developement platform question

Hi,

At this time I cannot afford the MSDN subscription or for that matter purchasing a copy of all of Microsoft's OS's.. So, at this time, I am only able to test my software out on Windows 98 which is the same OS that my software was developed on..

My question is, should I be aware of any problems or incompatibilities that may occur if say a customer installs my software on anything other than 98, such as ME, 95, 2000, NT, etc?

Any help on this subject would be appreciated..

well, this is not a simple one ..
there are lots of places for erros, but generally if you don't use any API's in your program or any winsock, as far as I know there shouldn't be any problems.

Don't try VB Progs with ANY API in win2000 or any other NT. you will never know what may crash it.

don't be so harsh on him, most API's would work on both, just if he doesn't have a way to check it, then he should avoid it ...

Correct me if I'm off base here...

But wouldn't this be a great place to have a number of Beta Tester's for your program???

At least you would receive some constructive feedback, and hear about any possible concerns with different OS's.

Thanks for the feedback.. Actually, my application does use API and Winsock... Although the API is pretty basic and limited to reading/writing to the registry.. Which leads me to another question. I understand that NT and maybe 2000, has tighter security when it comes to the registry. Do I need to take that into consideration, such as user priviliages and things of that nature?

If you are looking for "beta testers" I have win2000 prof, winNT 4.0 server, win98se, win98se hebrew ver at home I can test it for you on all if you like.

I'm not being harsh on him, but I'm just suggesting because he doesn't have MSDN Subsc. for the latest API buggies.
