I have Directx9 but wanna use DX7, it just closes

I include the DX7 library and make a simpLe program to change res and dispLay a BMP, I copied the code from directx4vb.com (directx7 tutorials), but hte screen turns bLack and looks like it changes res, then it just ends the program. Compiled or F5, same thing.

I copied and pasted the exact code from Directx7 first tutorial on that site. anyway I DL'd the example and that worked, so I guess their was a misprInt in the posted code.
