    Processes

    When I go into Windows Task Manager and click the Processes window there are mutipule programs running with the same name;
    svchost.exe is shown 4 times.
    IEXPLORE.EXE is shown 3 times.
    Why would this be?
    Is it possible that this would cause problems?

    I'm running Windows 2000 pro

    mulitple SVHost.exe running is quite common....from what I read SVHost is a generic service that runs to handle many things in windows. Do a search on google for a better explanation.

    As for multiple IEXPLORE.exe's, there will be one in the process tab for each instance of IE you have open. If you have only 1 open and still have multiple IEXPLORE.exe processes running, that may be a problem.

    sorry i couldn't be more specific

    If you want only one IE process running, you need to pick New Window from the file menu. If you click an icon from the start menu or wherever, it does run as a new process.

    Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
    I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

    good point JoshT....I never realized that. Probably cause I always click the icon to open up a new window cause if IE crashes I don't like losing everything I have open.

    whether you have multiple processes of IE depends on a particular setting i believe ("Launch folder windows in separate processes")

    saves memory if you don't. more crash resilient if you do.
