Also, what would be the main thing they could do to refurbish a warranty item in the first place? Cold solder joint, redo a messed up flashed bios, replace a cmos battery, a capacitor for a power supply, etc...?? I don't think it would be any major operation on chipsets etc. Anyone??

they could replace the chipset i suppose, but so far as fixing a defective chipset...no
they'd have to do that FIB thing
