    long overdue direct3d problem

aight.. ive been having this problem ever since i got the motherboard and processor i have now tht results in my not being able to play any direct 3d games without tons of anger, frustration, and program maniupulation. i have it working now.. but sometimes it doesnt... heres the thing.. whenever i go to play any direct32 game.. when this glitch is in effect, it seems to open the game full screen then almos immediatly minimize the window like i hit the windows key or something. usually.. its fixed by a simply reboot.. but when its not.. i have to sysem restore... im running a celeron 533 400megs or sdram.. and intel 810 card... ive also noticed that when i install the windows patch (i forgot the number but) that says "Windows cannot enter hibernation or standby when a dorect3d scr is running". i need to system restore because the patch doesnt work correctly... it will make that glitch permanent.. also...if the system works fine and i reboot.. the glith happens and then usually i can reboot again to fix it.. but when i cant.. i need to system restore.. ive also noticed that when explorer crashes.. and i have to click end now.. the glitch becomes permanent.. and i know its not a tsr b/c i try that game right after everythign is loaded.. and dont run any other progs.. and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.. but the same programs are loaded each time.. can someone help me wit this b/c ive been working on this problem a long time nd still cant figure out *** is screwing it up

Not taking the p*ss M8y... but you need to format your posts. I nearly lost-interest half way through.

Intel 810's are prone to faults... and there are available patches to rectify 90% of the ones you have listed.

Browse the Intel site (www.intel.com) for an update for the Intel 810i Graphics card, or go directly to your card manufacture. You WILL need to flash the BIOS of your GFX card, and maybe your system as well.

The direct3D SCR is a screensaver, and some do prevent your system from closing down correctly. Scan it for viruses too, as this is commonly a trojan fault.

Go to www.trendmicro.com , and do the free online scan. It should take around 15 to 40 mins depending on the size of hard disk, quantity and integrity of your files.

From how you describe your problem... it sounds like a simple driver fault with either your GFX card, or the AGP extension drivers supplied by your manufacture. I personally don't install any motherboard drivers from any manufacture, as they usually are provided by a company called VIA Technologies... and frankly their software & chipsets stink!

If you need any further help, please contact me.

    Regards,

    Paul.

No kidding. I mean, VIA's great (and fast too) when it's installed... but it's a nightmare to do so!

    4in1 drivers... huh!

I suppose they can't be that bad, or Gigabyte wouldn't use 'em. Litterally every MOBO i've used with VIA installed has crashed and been buggy, and therefore i don't use the drivers anymore.

My system has been running for months now, without any VIA drivers. I GHO'd my hard drives and formatted them, to test an install of Windows XP Pro with new SP & VIA 4in1 drivers, and it crashed after a few minutes. No surprises there then! :¬)

    Regards,

    Paul.

FWIW, I've seen more troubles with Via chipsets when the drivers aren't installed. And unfortunately, almost any Athlon motherboard is likely to have a Via chipset - you'd almost have to go out of your way to get one with the AMD or Sis chipsets. Supposedly, the "A" revisions are better.

    Firstly... whats FWIW???

I'm litterally just about to format my system (again)!!! Every mobo swap, new format

Here's the spec as it stands... If it crashes with the new VIA 4in1's, i'll 'ave ya!

Gigabyte 7VAXPU (Bios Rev: F4, AGP @ 8x, top performance: on)
    AMD XP 2800+
    512mb PC3200 DDR (finally got my 3200's back )
    3 x 200Gb's IDE 7200 WD's
Geforce III Ti500 64mb DDR (Nvidia Original)
    Creative SB II Platinum
    1 x 10/100mbps NIC
    1 x 10/100/1000mbps NIC
2 x Extractors (and god it needs 'em)
Winfast TV2000 XP Deluxe with new driver-pack (still no damn teletext though... LEADTEK )

Right... that gives you a basic idea. Let's see if it crashes... brb.

    Regards,

    Paul.

    Well...

    The system's now up...

All drivers installed INCLUDING VIA 4in1 v.443, and, it seems fine!

I don't believe it... it all seems fine!

I'm installing all the other packages I need 2moro, so i'll see how that goes.

    Regards,

    Paul.

Just thought I'd tell you guys, from no VIAs to the 4.45v Hyperions (and USB from the driver CD), my 3Dmarks went from 9597 to 12250. Nearly a 1/3 increase!

    Wow....

    I only get 1784 @ 1024x768x32, NoAA, 32b Z.

If you're using 3dMark2001, that's why your's is higher! I'm using 3dMark03, and the scores are dramatically lower. You can't compare scores with previous versions, as it checks different stages.

I admit though, with VIA installed, the PC&3D mark is higher, but i'de rather have slower and stable, than quick and unreliable! Just thought... I didn't switch on Top Performance in the BIOS after re-formatting. I'm off to try it, and i'll be back with a new benchmark figure!

    Regards,

    Paul.

Oh, 2k3? That's too new, so I didn't think many would have "switched". I get about 3580.

    Jeeeeez,

What's your spec M8? I'm only running a Geforce III Ti500 64mb DDR, and it benchmarks around 1000 usually on 2k3. Just enabled Top performance, and it hasn't made a huge difference, but it's noticable.

You must have a spankin system!!! Want one

    Regards,

    Paul.
