Question Tobacco companies sponsoring sporting events?

Should tobacco companies be banned from sponsoring sporting events?

In the UK, this is being phased in. Indeed, I am just watching the last Benson & Hedges Masters Snooker tournament. After this one, Snooker loses one of it's most important tournaments for good.

So, is this just harming sport for no good reason or is it an important step so that people get the message that tobacco is bad for you?

They should only be allowed to sponsor sporting events if all the players smoke.

    Football on Fags. Great sport.

with F1 they'll just move the events to countries that have no problem with that type of sponsorship; and on the tv they can just blur it out.

Teams will be ****ed for sponsorship thuogh.
B&H, marlborough, lucky strike etc. won't pay so much if they're only getting their name on corporate documents or something.
They'd still want it on the cars and banners etc.

Personally, I think it's wrong to ban tobacco advertising and sponsorship. I hardly think that it encourages people to start smoking anyway.

They wouldn't pour money into it otherwise

Though actually I suppose its more to keep smokers smoking that branch rather than encourage people to just start...
