    Transparent Backgound: Photoshop

    I'm really a graphics program newbie. All I need to do is make the backgound of a picture that I scanned in, transparent. I've run through a couple tutorials that say I need the GIF9A export thing or something but the only thing that comes up when I click File, Export...is Paths to Illustrator. I didn't think this would be such a pain. I figured you could somehow just select a color and say "This is my transparent color." I guess it's a bit more complicated than that. Anyway, if anyone can help me out with this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

    Use the eraser tool or a layer mask. If you want to only erase a certain colour set a low tolerance. Then save as gif/png or anything else that retains transparency.

    Use the magic wand tool to select the background, and press the delete key.

    Or...

    Paint the backdrop white... and set white to be the transparent colour. Saving in PSD will retain the transparency, although i don't think gif / jpeg do! I could be wrong... i'm just trying it now!

    easiest way -

    copy the entire image to clipboard, and go to "File - > New", select background as transparent, the image sizes will automatically fit the clipboard, so click okay, paste your image and do either :-

    click the eares you want trasparent and hit delete

    or

    with the colour drop too, select a colour of the image you want to set to transparent, and then go to Select > Colour range, widdle with the setting a bit till it shows all of that particular colours area, hit okay and press delete

    to save trasnparent, simply convert to index colour and make sure you have transparency checked.

    Nope...got it when me and my friend made a website for a norwegian company. He was doing most of the PhotoShop things and I made som applets and script things...and stuff....
