SQL.Slammer Worm
Just in case anyone cares, my work was hit pretty hard by this so I thought I would show you all a picture off of our mrtg so you could understand just how much it affected our network.

woot! that's a huge change.
btw what does it excatly do? does it just cause traffic? you didnt loose any data?
Can they remove the worm easily just like any other virus? or does it really mess up with the db?

Well it increases network activity by such a huge ammount that basically all activity is ground to a halt effectively stopping any access to the systems...thus called a Denial of Service attack, this did not cause damage to local data but could have caused lost packets which could be just as damaging depending on what data was lost...in example an atm machine sending money in a packet.... you get the idea.

it was just a frog graph showing the number of frogs sent through the network.

I'll bet they never reached Iran... networks there must be waaaay too dumb to handle them.
