Host for add-in. How ?

I hope that someone can help me with this.

I have played around with building Add-ins for vb.net and Microsoft Office and on that subject i can find a lot of information on MSDN and other sites, but that is not what i need. I have to build an application in vb.net and i want to make it a host so that i can build add-ins for this application. But how is this done ? Can it be done ? - If anyone has a link to some documentation on this or an example or anything it would be higly appriciated. I have even called microsoft and told them i want to buy some books on the subject but the tecnical sales person got lost somewhere between Hallo im..... and What book should i buy? . so no help there.
