Are you looking to move a man or animate a man, or both at the same time???

First of all, don't do the animation by moving controls around in VB. You'll get a flickery animation. Instead, keep the images of the walking in offscreen memory somewhere, and use a method to copy the data to the visible area. The BitBlt API function is a good place to start - it isn't the fastest way to do this, but it is probably the easiest to understand and learn from.

Yes but it also depends on the size of the picture and how fast it is supposed to move...small pictures seldom flicker at all...
If you are completly new to gaming in VB, then I would start with picture boxes before moving on to BitBlt and then to DX when I was ready....

I don't know about pictureboxes - it will leave you dependant on VB controls (I never went through that "phase" myself, just used BitBlt..).

When I started programming I didn't know anyone else that could program. I did not have internet. So I pretty much learned by testing and failing. So I made my first small games using picture boxes and stuff. I thought it was easier to understand. It hided a lot of the difficult lines of coding. And it was easier for me to understand collision detection and stuff like that. But that was me for some years ago. I'm not sure what I will recommend for newbies these days.

I made a game in which I moved players around the screen and I think using BitBliting is by far the easiest way to do it. Other than learning the basics behind how to use it, and declaring it as an API, it is very easy to use.

Yes in fact it is just as easy as moving pictureboxes....but by using picture voxes you don't need to declare any APIs...

hehe, I remembered when I started programming ... I was like 8 years old and asked my dad "how are games made ?" ... so he intruduced me to macro's in excel. It was very easy because you could just press record and after you pressed stop you could examine the code. I learned a lot then and made some really cool games in Excel. I made a AI-chess player when I was 12 (in Excell VBA) hehe I didn't know about internet neither but ... that's REAL programming right ? achieving much without any resources at all
anyway ... Use Flash or VB ... it all depends of what you're trying to do. Is it a game you're making ? or just a kind of cartoon ? Is it 3D or 2D ? I would stick to flash if it's 2D and no user-input is needed.

I can't see any reason to use Flash in stead of VB for a 2D game...

I don't have flickering in DX neither but this guy is a noob are you gonna ask a noob to choose Direct X 8 instead of Flash ?! huh ?
About the database ... I know I would try db's in Flash neither (however it's possible). I would also do this in VB ... that's why I asked if it was a cartoon (=> flash) or a game (=> VB)

And we have still not got any answer to what method you are using for your graphics in VB. If you are using pictureboxes. Then you can load in the diffrent pictues of the animation at runtime using a timer. If you are using BitBlt. Then place all the pictures in pictureboxes, and then blt them to the screen at runtime. If you are using DX then make a big sprite with all the pictures of the animation and blt the part of the sprite you want to show, to the back buffer. You can do that if you are using BitBlt to, but then Blt it to the screen...

well merhaba you know how to move objects... now learn to work with the timer control. And that's all you need
Ofcourse you could use a usercontrol instead. Make the leggs of the person move inside the usercontrol. Put the control you made, in the form and move it with another timer.
We're helping. But a dialog should go in 2 directions.
