I have VB3, and I want to upgrade it to VB6. Do I have to go out and buy VB6 or can I just download it?

That calls for a little clarification. Legally, you have to buy it, but there probably is some place where you can download it illegally. And if you download it, you won't get tech support, you'll not want to distribute your programs, and if the FBI suddenly enter your home and search your computer for hacking and find the hacked copy, you'll be in big trouble.

But that was an unbiased opinion.

I don't have an illegal copy, but I'm sure if you download ANYTHING off the web that is illegal, you will most likely NOT be prosecuted because companies go after the people that distribute the software, not the joe blows that download it. There are simply not enough resources available to prosecute everyone who has downloaded something illegally.

Even the person who was convicted last year under that electronic theft act (who had a warez/mp3/movie site containing an estimated $10,000 or so) was only given 2 years probation and that's it.

Of course, I would not like anyone stealing my software, but sh*t happens

Are you are saying it's OK to steal as long as you don't get caught and/or prosecuted. Or are you saying it's OK to steal as long as it's not your property?
