    Mad as Hell

well... after I go and blow all of my hard earned money Microsoft has decided to release VS NET 2003.... I can't keep up!

Anyone out there that has read up on this.. explain to me why I would feel the need to go out and Buy 2003 now!?

Why must they do this to us! Damn can't they find something and stick with it instead of releasing a new version to everything every year..!?!?

    Input is appreciated here...

Before you get upset the upgrade from your version to 2003 is like $20. They did that since it was released so quickly after the other, well it will be after its released. Also it isn't that different from the current version. From what I've read, and I know others here have tested the beta so they'll know more, the main thing is a few IDE improvements (sped up) and some stuff for working with Mobile devices.

Yeah thats true what Edneeis said. Its not that big of a deal. VS.NET 2003 will include the Smart Device Extensions, service packs and the updated framework v1.1 plus some extras for the IDE.

It's supposed to be synchronized with the release of Windows .NET server 2003, couldn't find a date for that though....

    New info:

Microsoft is aiming to release Windows 2003 server in April 2003 and as I metioned before they will synchronize it with the release of Visual Studio .NET 2003.

It's a fair guess that the product will be named Visual studio 2003 though as they also claim that they actually dropped the ".NET" part of the name for the server product, ie Windows 2003 server (not Windows .NET 2003 server).....

I dont think MS will be realeasing this version in stores. When I go my final beta, they said that, registered users of VS.NET will be able to purchase the new version online for $29 USD. So people with warez copies wont be able to get this. MSDN subscribers will be able to download this before its available to the public.

Again, this is not a big release. If you dont want to purchase the new CDs from MS, there will be a service pack to update the VS.NET to the new version. This service pack will be available shortly after the release of the new version for download. I got this info from the letter that accompanied my final beta of VS.NET 2003.
