Format and Reinstall Win2K PRO
I want to format my existing OS, which is Win2K PRO and reinstall Win2k PRO again. But there is no option like "start the PC in command prompt" which is available in 98. I have done this several time with 98 to Format and reinstall the OS. I have also stored the setup on drive D. Also, if I press F8 while booting the PC, there is an option "Command prompt with Safe mode". So shalll I start OS in this option? And will it allow me to format the OS from there? One More thing is I don't have startup disks for that. So how can i format it?
Help needed...

Make you self a bootable floppy with CD-ROM support. www.bootdisk.com will help you out on this one.
Add format.com to that disk and boot from that floppy.
[e:> Being your CD drive)
a:> format c:
a:> e:
e:> c \i386
e:> winnt
And the installation begins.
For W2k and XP add smartdrv.exe to the disk to speed up the copying so before the last step type:
e:>smartdrv
OR
Drop in the Win2K CD and select "Upgrade".This will overwrite what you have, in essence "formatting".
Don't select "New" or you'll have 2 complete versions installed.

The 2000 Pro cd is bootable.
When restarting yoiu'll get a line(you may have to be quick) Press any key to boot from cd.
If you dont get this try adjusting your bios settings to be able to boot from cd.

Hmm...
Sound's like a ripped CD to me! Can't remember seeing a CD from Microsoft with all versions of Win2k on them?
Get a legal version... then you can boot to it!
Regards,
Paul.

No VisionIT, actually we got a licence of using all the products of Microsoft for 1 year. There was a CD for only win2K which was a bootable Cd but unfortunately it is missing. Now there is a another CD called "Windows Versions" So there is everything on the same CD. But it is not bootable CD.

Eh?
I repeat...

I didn't mention the licence! If you have a valid licence... and you can prove it... Microsoft will send you a replacement 2k CD.
Just searched all my suppliers... and cannot find an MS CD with all versions of Win2k! , meaning it must be a ripped (burnt) CD!
Does the disc have a certificate of authenticity? If it doesn't.. or it looks like a copy... I would strongly suggest you don't publish the fact!

Paul.

MSDN has an all version win 2k CD. You can burn the one you want from it complete with autorun. You gust pick the folder and burn the contents only to a blank CD.

And in the future, keep an .iso of your disk on your hard drive. I
did and it saved my butt.

I only use my original cd's once, to burn a copy for daily use. If I scratch a cd I just burn another from the original.

MSDN
It's subscription based service. It's not cheap but you can basically get a copy of every OS and application Micro$oft makes plus some extras.
