    preventing access to my desktop

I am using WinXP and have setup 3 user accounts.
    1. Administrator - (for myself)
    2. Limited account for my son
    3. Limited account for my daughter

The Hard drive is of Fat32 type
Is it possible to prevent access to my desktop from thier accounts?

    If so, how?

    Thanks alot

Do you mean, you dont want them to access all your personal files? If so, it is possible.

You will have to go to this path C:\Documents and Settings then you will see all your computer's user's folders.
Now right-click on your folder (should be the administrator's account name) and click on Properties.
Next, click on the Sharing tab and you should see a CheckBox. Click it and you're done.

CraZ - Huh? I'm not familiar with that method of doing things. Could you explain what this does?

I thought a much more simple idea - go to Documents and Settings, Administrator as CraZ has said. Right click, permissions, and put read to only administrator (take out all other users).
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.
    (Just a heads-up)

CraZ... who told you that M8? Quite simply... their wrong!

    Anyway...

    Claxer >>

It isn't possible to disable access to any directory using WinXP & FAT32 file partitioning. You need NTFS file system to make full use of the security features included in 2k & XP.

I would strongly suggest you re-partition your Hard disk for NTFS use, unless you are dual booting with 98/98SE/Me. All older OS's are unable to view NTFS partitions, so you will need to keep FAT32.

You could get yourself a third party package, to encrypt all your data if you wish... but it's really not worth it M8. What files do you not want your son/daughter to see?

    Regards,

    Paul.

I want to apologize for if what i said really isnt possible but i have done it on my computer and it works fine.

Here's a screen shot of where my direction get you:

I clicked that circled checkbox and i cant access my files when on another account. (says access is denied)

The only reason i could think its not possible, it that claxer would have WinXP Home (i have Pro). I'm not sure if it works with Home.

BTW what exactly is the differences between FAT32 and NTFS? im not that familiar with the terms.
