Which is better Crystal or Active Reports

crystal is the most scalable and easiest to use with VB i think.. they have many examples on their site using various programming languages... they do like to patch the crap out of their programs though.. i guess it all depends on what you are looking to do

Maybe u should try vsView Reporting edition from http://www.componentone.com. This reporting tool is somewhat similar to MS Access, but much richer in options, and very, very fast (and Crystal was very slow in the past).

I've used both Crystal (v7) and Active (v2) reports extensively and I found Active much easier to use.

The Crystal report designer program was always horrible to use in my opinion (using guides to line things up, not being able to change the binding of a field, using formulas etc...)

OK, crystal does have a report designer addin for VB (like Active Reports) but I found it nowhere near as robust. I may have been fixed in a more recent version than I have used but it used to suck.

IMHO, Active Reports (v2) is far higher quality than Crystal Reports, but it lacks some of the features of Crystal Reports. This is probably because it is a "younger" program than Crystal. Give it another version or two and it will be better than Crystal in every way.
