    Making Smaller Setups

    Hey
Whenever i use the package and deployment taht comes with vb6 .. my setup is always 1.44mb. Im thinking its adding files that i dont need. How can i make small setups and still be able to distribute without adding files? So i guess my question is .. how do i make small, but compatible setups?

The basic problem here is that you need to include the runtime files of VB which in itself take about 1.2 mb of disk space when compressed. So your setup package comes to around 1.4 MB.

    Well...

To reduce the size of your installation program by not selecting the vbruntime files when the installation wizard screen. This is will help to reduce the size of your installation program. Still you need vb runtime files, that you can download it from the microsft.com site separately. Any way you need to carry the vbruntime file also along with your software at the time of installation.

    Enjoy Programming!!!

The VB runtimes ship with Windows XP and possibly Windows 2K (not sure about W2K though). So if your client runs one of these OS you might not need to include them ...

Well most of my clients, my friends , run win 98 and do not have th e vb runtimes. Most are not very smart when it comes to comptuers. So i try to make it as easy as possible for them but my free web server wont allow me to upload over 1 mb. Soo thats a problem.

They only have to install the runtimes once. Then they dont need to reinstall for any other VB6 apps you want to provide them. Unfortunately, there is no way around that first install (none that I am aware of anyway).

you can usually buy a 100 pack of CDRs for 20 bucks when they have the sales @ compusa/bestbuy.. or on the net you can find them too.. usually the silver ones with no printing on them @ all...

which means they are only .20 a CD...
