When I tried to post a... post from school.. and I wasn't "cookied" and it said I wasn't allowed to reply..
and i can't use cookies @ my school, so.. John, could you make it so we don't have to use cookies to post?

The problem with cookie-less posting is that people can post without logging on, and be really abusive but untraceable. It's pretty unfeasible to enable posting without cookies.

I just wan't to be able to post(with my username) and thats it...

I see what you mean, I misunderstood.

Information is stored in a database on the server which writes to a cookie, your information, am I correct? It is best to log in and have vb-world.net set a cookie, so you can delete it so no one will know your password or anything.

Some security-freak network admins disable cookies though, just like they disable the Start->Run box and anything else that might be used to do anything interesting.

If you could type in your username and password on the same form as you enter your post, that would remove the need to have cookies enabled before you can post anything. I know the boxes are still there, but you have to log on before you even get to that screen now

and some of the computers allow you to use the Run dialog, and access C:\ and allow you to use internet explorer.

but the others don't...
Novell skips it sometimes.. and that sucks, because i have only gotten a "messed up" (less secure) computer once..

I think john did this because of all the batwars and membername changing...

It's an NT thing I'm fairly sure, not Novell. Novell is actually pretty good for things like file and print servers, from a performance point of view. Anyway don't blame it on Novell, blame it on the admins! And if in doubt try an MS-DOS boot disk. Worth a try.

No floppy? Right, well in that case, do you have a CD writer? If so, go into the BIOS and change the boot-up settings so that it checks to boot from the CD before the hard disk, then stick in a bootable CD that you've made. Err... hang on a minute how does it get the DOS CD drivers from the CD? Strange... I've seen computers boot from CD before though.

Well, try doing that and another 14 year old kid will get expelled.

Sorry about encouraging it, but I have many not-so-fond memories of just plain stupid restrictions on networks. For instance the main open-access IT area at the uni I am at - I bought a cd rewriter so I could transfer large files from home and campus, but the computers don't have the necessary drivers and won't allow me to install them. I spent over 200 quid on that. I wasn't happy.
