About Layers, for many of us ???

Hi, would you like to help a hypocrite. Here i am...
I have been working all these days without knowing the essence of it. well, here is what i mean,

What are USER LAYER, BUSINESS LAYER and DATA LAYER ???

I bet there are n number of people like me who doesnt know this. they might be doing them unknowingly. if yes, those who dont know, please look for answers over here. if no, please help me come of out it.

Please take pains of explaining them in terms of say, functions, procedures, stored procedures, Active-x, dlls, class modules etc., and be kind enuf to tell where they reside or where you keep them and how would you differentiate between them.

Your contribution could be anything (and would be worth it).

suggestion, idea, improvement, explanation, lecture, article, links to articles or relating sites etc., or atleast SPIT ON MY FACE.

If u are kind enuf, i will be desperately waiting at [email protected] (or) [email protected].

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure what the terms refer to. To be brutally frank, I don't give a damn.

I would assume that USER LAYER refers to the level of aggregating information (in the form of spreadsheets, reports, etc) that a non-computer using decision maker would access. Roger Fox (of the Foxtrot cartoon) would have access to the USER LEVEL.

BUSINESS LAYER (???) My guess would be the some level of aggregation between the raw data and the end user.

DATA LAYER would probably refer to the raw data.

Unless I'm really wrong (and BOY! could I be really wrong!!!) these terms are probably defining concepts similar to those used in data mining and warehousing. As such, they don't really have a corresponding construct in terms of anything but reports.

    Good Luck
