However, as far as getting a version of 3 that may be a problem as well. To my knowledge, when a new version comes out, all the old versions are pulled off the shelves of retail outlets and returned to MS.

If you have the numbers from the original, MS will replace lost or damaged ones with confirmation of your receipts and
key numbers.
