    Post Dump request

I would like to request a dump of all my posts, if possible. I don't feel this forum has gone in the right direction and I want some of my information in the future.

    Thank you

PS... developer.com... that's just sad. I hated that site, reminds me of about.com... poor Karl

Forums are ok, but I don't like how I go to www.vbworld.com and get taken to a ****ty developer.com site that looks like it was half assed in an hour. I see more ads on that page then relavent (sp?) information about vb. It has gotten too commercial and handed over too many times. I don't even know the people that own the site. I've never seen anything they've done, like I've see Karl's tutorials, which were great btw, and now I can't even get to them because vbworld.com doesn't exist anymore. It's not so much the forums as it is the other sites, but they are linked to each other, and I don't want to contribute to that commercial site.

So, if I could, I would like the post dump, but if it's not possible, then it won't be the end of the world.

Yes, I was just fine with how the old, old VBW was. The fora are nice now that we have that little 'glitch' smoothed over, but the site... the one that Karl had planned was nice!
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.

Yes, I know I can get to the forums by going directly to that url, that's what I do, but I don't see what difference that makes. It's only a matter of time before they come in and commercialize the forums too. They already brought in some stupid rules that they had to remove almost as quickly as the were implemented. I just believe I am seeing the beginning of the end unfold before me.

A post dump is where someone writes a small SQL script that runs a query that will retrieve all posts written by a certain user. Then it can save them to a file or email them or whatever.

I agree with MidgetsBro. All the VBforum parther sites are turning around and not focasing on VB as much as they should be. I was thinking about finding a new forum before VBforums turns around too.

The Mods don't necessarily have time to write {simple} code to satisfy the individual requests of the masses. However, if someone would volunteer for just such an assignment...

I'd like a listing of all my attachements, please!

Are you sure you are not being paranoid like a few other members, who probably didn't want their "rights" of posting utter crap being taken away from them?

I have been here for more than two years now, and apart from the legal title/ownership of the board changing hands, there's little that has changed. If I think more, the only changes that have been brought about are the moderators and the ad banners. The ad banners were there even before Karl took over, and then they were the irritating pop-ups. As far as the forums' working is concerned, I don't think there's been any change, or a shift to areas other than VB as some might claim. The other forums on C/C++, Java, PHP etc. were added when John was here, and they all were added mostly on members' requests to have separate forums to discuss those languages. So the shift, if any, has not taken place now. In fact it was made even before the forums were sold to Karl. So frankly speaking, I don't see any point in your request and your desire to leave.

I seem to think this particular moment has been picked by a few members to just promote their own discussion boards. Nothing has changed, but a lot of hue and cry is going on about how "it's headed" or "it's going to be"! Could I ask how many of those members who are trying to claim the VBF is headed the wrong way, are actively involved in the discussion forums, I mean on an everyday basis? Some of these could just be some unwanted baggage best dumped now.

Only administrators have the required access to do anything with the DB directly.
I can't understand why anyone would want a post dump.

Except perhaps in the case of the times of war development team whereby they felt their code would have effectively changed ownership.
The ownership of code problem was since resolved though, so they should be happy.

But everyone else who wants post dumps ....

I asked for a post dumb so that I could get all posts off of here, for reading and such.

And the fact that other methods of getting the my posts could cause problems with server... (apparently...)

Seems highly coincidental that you want your posts to read through at the same time that everyone gets up and leaves for galahtech

If you want a list of your posts, you can get it via the user profile screen. You can get a list of anyone's posts.

True, but only one screenful at a time.

But, it seems that this individual would like to have a portable text version of all his posts, a potential "Save To File" of all his posts in their entirety.

Of course, he could progie a Crawler kind of utility.
Although, that would be a somewhat complex task, but it sounds like fun!

I already made one that goes through and stores the URL to every post that my name is mentioned in. It won't be that hard to save the source of the page, since it's already download with the inet control anyway...

I just gotta make it now test for a page 2, 3, etc. I've got it all figured out already, just working on making the code perfect so that I don't waste too much bandwidth testing it.
