    Question Disable AutoSearch in IE

I am having a similar problem to http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...hreadid=185103

I can't disable the AutoSearch from address bar facility.
If I click on a vbscript link on my web page it redirects to MSN!!

If I change the When Searching setting in Advanced options,
then go to a different website, IE changes itself back to the
previous setting, which was nothing selected at all

I have tracked this down in the registry to the Dword
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\AutoSearch

    It doesn't matter what I do (rename/deelte/modify)
it always restores itself to 8, which according to the
documentation isnt even a valid value

The Repair IE function doesn't work and I've tried importing
cartain keys from other PCs that dont have the problem.

Does IE restore bits of the registry from DLLs?
If so I suppose I could have a corrupted DLL somehow.??

    Any ideas?

    /Andrew

If I change the When Searching setting in Advanced options,
by this do you mean that you've opened the search sidebar and
chosen customise? or if not have you tried this?

it currently doesn't do anything as I have renamed some
    registry keys

I never use the search bar anyway.

what should the customise button do exactly?

When you open the Search SideBar and select Customise
A new window popsup at the botton there is a button
"Auto search setting" here you can specify :
allowing searches from the address bar or not
and if you do allo searches which search engine to use.

Sorry, I can't help that, it does mean anything to me.
So I can't say if it's right or wrong.

well I have managed to get the customize page to work now
Pressing the reset button under Programs seems to do more
than the Restore button in Advanced Options

I have given the "Auto search setting" a go but it doesn't seem
to make a difference. I change it to Google Sites and dont search
then when I click OK and go to a different page, the dont search
bit has changed but the Google hasn't, yet MSN is still the search
    page that appears!!

Something is definitely wrong with the Dword
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\AutoSearch

Trouble is I dont know what!!

Im just about ready to reformat

    /A
