I've written a program in VB which shells to some Word docs
and then runs the SDK Access runtime setup to load an mdb.
It uses the registry fairly heavily for a number of reasons.
Firstly I use savesetting to put user data (from a form)
into registry and getsetting to get it out and on to word
docs.
I also use it to find out the version of word on the user PC
and the current enablemacrovirusprotection value (level, on 2K)
This value is modified to allow docs with macros to be displayed, and reset on exit of word.
It all works fine in a standalone PC, but now I've got to put it on a WindowsNT system. I'm a bit new to NT
My first attempt was a dismal failure
The info I've got so far seems conflicting
Firstly I've been told a VB prog can't modify the registry
on a NT workstation, and in some circumstances can't even read certain keys
I didn't get as far as the Access runtime bit, but I get
the feeling the workstations without Access won't like it
Any of you guys been down this road before, or can point
me in the right direction.
Thanks

Well, all that I know is, are you the Administrator? If not, DON'T try it...

It sounds from your reply as if the Administrator can determine whether or not an installed VB prog can modify the registry on NT
Is this the case?

I think what Escaflowne means is that doing what you're describing needs authorization from the administrator, both in reality and on the computer.
Doing things without administrative permission can get you in a lot of trouble.

Not the program, but the person running the program. That user needs permissions to update the registry (most of ours, don't).
