New Open Source Operating System
Hi all,
I am currently working on a Open Source Operating System project with the first alpha release planned for January(or the minute I get my second ADSL line installed). At the minute it is pretty basic with just bootloader and a Shell, I will be moving this to DJGCC the minute I get it tommorow and adding file system support before this release.
If you are interested in testing it please email me at...
[email protected]
If you would like to write or add code to the project please email me at the same address but state that you would like to help write it and also include previous coding experience.
Any questions to the same address and I will do my best to answer them!!!!
Chris Allen
This is an Open Source Project with the code being freely avaliable under th GNU GPL

Hi,
Is anyone else interested? Doesn't matter if you have lousy programming skills as we will need people to doc the system calls. Doesn't matter if you can't write Visual Basic as we will also be using GCC (C) and NASM (Assembly). If you can program anything else you can also help as I am sure we can worki something out!

Hi all,
I will be contacting everyone who is interested sometime today, I am also going to create a thread in the Assembly forum to try and get some more assembly programmers .
I will email toto now to discuss the hosting of the files and also aafuss to see what he can license for us to port. I am still looking for someone to help me with the filesystem, let me know if you can help (gcc or assembly).
Anyone else interested, no experience neccessary (but need a couple of C/Assembly programmers).
Also looking for a new name for the project, get your suggestions going!!!!

I tried to learn ASM but no one would answer my BASIC Q in the ASM forum. ANyways, I can documebt for you. If you have AIM, PM me your screenname. You can email me at [email protected] but my email server is down right now so just respond in here and we can probably set up some way of contacting one another.

Hey,
My suggestion is the following, you can take it or leave it.
Basically there are already many operating systems out there in existence etc, why not create a very specialized one instead of something that really already exists in a few ways.
I would suggest making an operating system that is very specifically geared towards web serving, with support for dns, ftp, http, smtp, pop, this alone will be a lot of work but definately less then something else, that loads instantly, is fast and has a low overhead.

That's a REALLY good idea. I think that alot of people would use it if it was stable.

Hi all,
I hope you have read toto's post as that is a very good roundup of the original aims!
I hope to get the source online today sometime (trying to defeat a firewall at the minute) someone doesn't like me using FTP. I hope you all had a good weekend but now it is time for some work!
Will post source to our NEW forums...
