minimising file size and cutting chunks out of mp3 files
I have a mp3 of Beethoven's Ode to Joy, and I would like to keep only part of it. I also want to make it a much smaller file size (i dont mind if it loses quality). Does anyone know how I can do this? Ive looked for ages on download.com for a program to help me but I cant find any

Open the Mp3, select & delete parts you don't want, Save it to Mp3 but change the bitrate (ex. if it's 128kbps, save to 64kbps). But here's a tip: 128kbps STEREO is really two 64kbps MONO streams merged together. So a 64kbps MONO stream will be half the size of a 128kbps STEREO stream, but the same percieved quality.
Alternatively, just select the part you want and choose Save Selection As.
