    Did you know Hacking makes our world go round?

    If there wasn't any hackers then we would still be stuck with Windows 3.1 or 95. Our economy is based mostly on technology. There for if we want to advance we need some way to tweak our technology for better proformance. Therefore companies make billions of dollars making anti-virus software, and Operating Sytem companies try to make the users more secure and easier at the same time. Then we start upgrading to better OS's and Updates. Then we start hacking them... Upgrade... Hacked... Upgrade... Hack. While money pours into our economy.

    I wrote a whole f**king essay about "Should Hacker's Be Punished as Terrorists?"

    Both sides are pointed in it, and my thesis supported hacking.

    Do you know what its called? Its called 1337. Most of the
    numbers in 1337 are really letters replaced with numbers. And
    also, everything is spelled phonetically and a few new words
    were created:
    l=1
    I=1
    S=5
    T=7
    H=#
    A=4
    G=6
    B=8
    J=_|
    M=(V)
    W=(/\)
    N=\/\
    O=0
    D=<|
    E=3
    K=>|
    V=/\
    Theres a complete alphabet translation of 1337.

    Oh, _|00 means 'you' _|0 means 'me', 'i do', etc r0x0r5
    means 'rocks' 5ux0r5 means 'sucks', and '\/\008' means someone
    who basically sucks at everything.

    Like 1337, Mr. Tindell?

    So by that rationale people who break in to your house are doing you a service by pointing out flaws in your security setup; and people who mug you are just showing you the inherrent flaw of a cash based society?

    Or for a more recent, real world example, terrorists are doing us a favor by showing us how lax our security is.

    Yes, but we still didn't get the point and everyone freaked out about and sold stocks leaving our economy dead dry. The individual is smart, the group is not so smart, and the World is completly retarded.

    there are hackers that get hired by huge compaines to try to hack their system... to make sure it is safe... there are other hackers that hack in just to see if they can... and there are other hackers that hack in so they can do damage...

    guess which ones should be punished?

    yeah of course hackers push technology along from a security standpoint.. the same way all the past wars our world has been in have resulted in many new weapons and technologies.. many of which have been moved from being military technology to normal household appliance technology..

    there will always been good vs bad... that is never going to end..

    i saw this show on the history channel about the weapon Vs armor.. it was pretty cool.. and actualy falls in the same context as this.. they showed how over the past hundreds of years.. armor had to change with the weapons.. because you only know how well something can protect.. when you see the damage the attacker can do..

    do i get an A??

    well if you would watch more history channel you could have gone off on a wild but parrallel tanget like i did...

    it was a really cool show.. it showed how when guns first came around... they made armor like knights wore that was bullet proof (the bullets/guns then were not as powerful) but it said that they used to test them by shooting them.. and soldiers wouldn't buy them unless they had the mark where they had been tested in the breast plate... then when guns improved they stopped wearing armor for a while because it was heavy and couldn't stop bullets anymore.. then they went on to explain how dupont inadvertanly invented kevlar which is still used in bullet proof vests

    You dont notice the root "Terror"? Id say they both cause that.

    kleinma, good points all. However, we dont shoot tanks with armor piercing rounds. We shoot loose sheets of armor with those rounds. We dont test things in the field(well, intelligent peopl dont). The comparison is then invalid.

    As Merrion has said, what happens if a medical computer is attacked? What if your medical records get into the wrong hands? SSN, Phone number, Name, address, plus every disease youve ever had. What if they get into a computer that controls a radiation therapy thingamajigger for cancer patients?

    You see, there is a difference between hiring "hackers" to attack your system to find its security holes, and someone randomly dancing through your data.

    Yes, a malicious hacker points out holes in our security, and can better that security. Does that mean that the crime is any less? No. Just as a person with a gun can kill a person, someone screwing inside the wrong computer can kill a person. Just as a person can take hostages with a gun, someone can take a computer hostage. You are essentially saying that electronic crime is somehow less wrong then the same physical act. To put that very simply, that is ignorance.

    Steve: No, but thanks for the compliment =)

    Z.
