Important 'Everett' Information
If you are like me, you have been thinking about a major problem with the newest Visual Studio .NET version about to be released. The thought is 'Well I just purchased VS .NET 1.0 before I knew about Everett. Am I screwed when the next version is released and have to dish out another couple thousand dollars?'
Thankfully this is MS' response:
For Visual Studio .NET 2002 customers who do not subscribe to MSDN or to a Microsoft volume licensing program, Microsoft is committed to providing an inexpensive path to "Everett." Registered users of Visual Studio .NET 2002 will be able to license "Everett" for $29 US, the cost of materials, shipping and handling, for a limited time after release.
This made me happy.
Those of you with pirated copies will of course need to redownload the whole thing from your favorite warez source.

Dont think there is a final date set yet, but I believe the last beta version just recently shipped. So I would expect it out not too much longer from now.

I dont think it might be long before we see the final product. I've have the final beta since last week. Also I got an E-mail from MS Friday.
This is what it said.
Dear Beta Tester,
Thank you for your participation in the Visual Studio .NET “Everett” Beta program! We sincerely appreciate your contribution in helping us prepare “Everett” for a high-quality, customer-focused release.
As you know, your participation in the beta program has been confidential – up until this point. On Sunday, November 17, 2002, Microsoft will announce “Everett” and christen it Visual Studio .NET 2003. We will release the Final Beta, which you should now have, to the MSDN Subscriber Download site, and include it with the next MSDN monthly shipment. As of November 17, you will be officially released from the confidentiality clause (section 5) of your License Agreement. The rest of the Agreement will remain in force.
This means that if you are presenting at a conference, user group, or other public forum, you can use Visual Studio .NET 2003. You can refer to the product by its proper name. You can post messages on public newsgroups, and generally acknowledge that you were an Everett beta tester.
Of course we are still looking for you to submit critical issues, adoption blockers, data loss, and application crash bugs, and will be accepting your bug reports right up until release. As a reminder, the Visual Studio “Everett” Beta Challenge will accept entries until 11:59 pm (PT) December 2, 2002.
Again, we thank you for the time and effort you have invested in Visual Studio .NET, and look forward to continuing this valuable work together.

AWESOME. I was waiting for it to be put up on the MSDN subscriber downloads. Thanks for posting that letter. I am now downloading the ISO's as I type this. Probably after I download and burn the ISO's, the actual disks will be in the mail box...just my luck.

There will be a service pack also available for those who dont want to pay the 29 bucks, or dont have an MSDN subscription.

But will the SP only contain a subset of changes or will it reflect all the new stuff?

I think the SP will reflect all the new stuff. Its just the new framework, version 1.1, J#, C++ compliance and the SDE plus any changes that they make to the IDE. However the SP wont be available at the same time as the new version. Because its not really a big change, I think thats the reason why MS is charging 29$ for the complete 7 disc set. They did'nt want to piss of too much people .
