I love Windows XP Pro for systems that can handle it, otherwise it's Windows 2000 Pro and if it still can't handle that, I put on windows 98SE. I don't come across too many computers that can't handle less the Windows 98SE

Win2k Pro/SuSE 8.2
Unfort. my uptime would be like 10 minutes because it's a dual-boot But I would like to assure you I'm typing this on Linux.

I never used Win2k professional so I am not sure.
But I beleive Win2k professional does not come with IIS, Cluster Service and all those other add-on utilities.

Yarr!
*sigh* Having a UPS is pointless for me anyway, because all that would happen is it'll shut down cleanly rather than going *clunk* *booooooooooo.......*.
With Win2K server you get more of the "Server" type tools. The MS website has a comparison.

Win2k Pro does have IIS, I'm not sure about Cluster Service but I do know that it's rock-solid (never has crashed on me, that's right, never) and it is faster than server and thus better for games.

Voted Windows cause linux just gives me hassle after hassle with my Geforce. Keeps detecting as a stupid TNT card no matter what I do. (And no, it really is a Geforce ). Running Suse 7.2. Didn't know 8 was out. Maybe I'll give it a try. Also, no support for internal modems in linux. Too many negatives. My machine at work is running XP. Up time is about 3 months now. Not near 270 odd days but it'll get there.

There is huge support for internal modems. If it's a WinModem then no wonder.
Someone posted an amusing rant about cheap modems somewhere, I think

I prefer linux however use windows for a few things, i have a slightly faster modem in windows (software) so if i am downloading something huge (leave it on all night kind of thin) I do it in windows. I use linux for all my programming (except the little that i do in VB), i also use windows for gaming but that is it.

Oh, heh, yeah. Too skint to buy one, and either way it probably won't do anything to the uptime - out in the cooontrysyde power cuts usually last longer than 11 minutes
And what's the point of a router if there are no computers to use it

I hope you guys with the uptime counters are running a server or something and not just keeping your Linux box running just for that uptime counter.

exaclty, and no M$ bullsh*t...
i find tho that linux apps are nearly as lear and simple as windows, but once you break'em in they're as good as gold, anyway most of the best stuff out there is crossplatform freeware (eg. NetBeans or OpenOffice)

Mines a router too, parksie...
Actually, my win2k box has been going since 27.10, and doesnt look like its going anywhere for a while (The moral of the story is to fix your memory leaks!). Weve got a bunch of other computers hooked into the server too, though I want to get my other lunix box connected too (need a hub and a couple of short cables).

RE: BSD. A lot of people prefer it because they're a lot more centralised than GNU/Linux, and the networking is considered to be better by some. I never tried it, so I have none of my own comments
Beacon: Router. At home. No Uninterruptible Power Supply What happens when the power goes?
