I trust my memory to tell me how trustworthy it is when I am using it.

So if I am recalling what I had for lunch yesterday it tells me you can pretty much rely on what it is handing me.

If I am recalling what I did when I was 5 then my memory tells me what it is handing me is a bit dodgy and to take it with a grain of salt.

When my memory fails me and reports something that turns out to be false I berrate it and tell it off... It goes and sulks in a corner for a day or 2 but then comes back with a stupid grin on its face

I read something somewhere about whales memories.

Very nice, I hear you say, but allow me to continue.

Apparently whales can record in perfect detail whole events and replay them perfectly later on. So on their long migration swims they can play these memories and not die of abject boredom.

I think it's great that we DON'T have this. A sight, a smell or a word someone says could trigger of a graphic replayal of a loved ones death. That could get messy...

Dennis, put that plank down. It's a memory aide only not a ... *WHACK*

Ow. That'll teach me to post tripe!

    Gentile or Jew,
O you who turn the wheel and look to windward,
Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you...

I can't wait unitl they come out with cyborg enhancements for the human brain. I can just imagine being able to store vast amounts of information in my brain and be able to access it whenever I want. By the time they come out with that everyone will be able "record" experiences and play them back later, giving everyone a near-total recall memory. I'm sure we'll be able to do it soon, as soon as we can decipher the electrical impulses emiited by the brain we'll be able to interpret them yada yada yada that'll be cool yada yada yada school will be REALLY easy yada yada yada internal calculator yada yada yada can't wait.

I hope this is very informative, now I'm going to retire for an hour and stare at a wall.
