    Survival Game: Concepts and Help

A couple days ago I started goofing around with just moving a circle around a grid on a form. Then I created another circle whose movement was controlled by the computer.

Pretty soon those two ideas expanded, and I made it so that if you got close enough to the computer circle, it'd chase you.

Now I have a full fledged game planned. The original code and concept is here: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...hreadid=211868

I didn't really plan to make a game, but here's what I have in mind:

You're in ancient times and you've been stranded from your tribe. You decided to make due with what you've got, and you find a hut. You start gathering food and supplies until suddenly you realize the land is occupied by cannibal barbarians.

Now you have to survive and fight off the barbarians.

In the game, you control an undecided number of huts, in which you store food, water, and weapons.

The barbarians patrol the land. If you get to close to them, they'll come after you and you must either out run them or fight them off.

At any time, if the barbarians come near, they'll attack the huts, or even destroy them. So you must stuck them with weapons and fight off the barbarians.

That's about all I've thought of so far.

Anyone have any other ideas? Does the concept suck? Is it pretty good?

Also attached is what I have so far. I know it's very weak, but this is only my second game (you should have seen the first) and I'm really trying.

(And yes, I do plan to replace the circles with graphics soon)

    Thanks,

    Kristopher

Edit: Attachment removed until I find out whether or not Jupitermedia will own it if I post it.

the idea sounds pretty good but their is one thing i wanted to point out if the barnarians can attack you huts and your not their you cant protect them, i suppose you could run back thier real fast but then if they attack tow of your huts at once you would be defenclles. othwise it sounds like a good idea

I plan on having the huts be able to be fortified (by storing weapons in them), so that when they attack, if they start too loose a considerable amount of health, they'll back off.

So they wont destory a hut in one attack (if its well fortified), so you'll have a chance to repair them.

I guess the final object of the game is to rid the land of the barbarians.

There are certain obstacles the computer can't get around. How about making it in such a way so that if the computer is one away from the same space for 10 or so turns, he takes a random direction until he is more than 2 away from that space. Otherwise it's very easy:
    Code:
      o
    #####
      x
    #####
In that example, x is the barbarian. He goes one left, two right, two left, etc. and never gets out.
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.
    (Just a heads-up)

Yeah, I know of this, but I don't know how to code intelligence for them to try to find a way around

What I mentioned in my post might be enough to keep it going. Who knows? (the part about moving 3 or so spaces in a random direction)

I'll try a few things tomorrow. Maybe program in an alternate route for it to try, and once it gets there and can't move, it goes back to where it was, or just gives up?
