Anyone know the absolute minimum system requirements for Windows 2000?

I've got it running on a P200 and 64MB of RAM, 5gb hard disk, and it runs quite well I might add.

I've got it running on a 1.3 ghz with 640 mb of ram and i've had no problems so far.

no, I'm lacking in serveral areas.
1. dialup is a killer
2. i've tried and tried to fill up 20 gigs, but i just can't seem to make it happen.

win2k runs fine though...

I have a AMD 266 with 256MB memory and a 4GB HDD. Works better than a Dell, thats for sure.

Are you running a server out of it?

If so you may just want to consider Linux instead.

Barring that, P266 with 128MB i'd say. A PII and 256MB would be just peachy.

I got it running on a P1 166 Mhz, 32MB RAM, 2 GB HDD machine last week. I don't recommend trying it - it goes continuously into virtual memory and slows to a crawl. But I wasn't going to spend $100 for some obsolete EDO SDRAM to upgrade it. Office wouldn't run right, so we're going to switch back to NT4, and hopefully replace the computer with a better one when the budget allows...

theoretically you could crack the setup file to run on a 286.....













or just run linux

I just know that it's recommended to have at least 128MB ram

I'd suggest a 500 Mhz+, with 128, if not 256, RAM.

My win2k(although advanced server, not pro) has taken up over a gig before.

I run on a xp 1600+, 256 MB DDR, 3 HDDs, 120 GB(NTFS), 15 GB(split into a FAT32 win98, and NTFS for 2k), and 1.5 GB(my mp3s, fat32 to work for win98/2k).

Well, I've got a 333 Mhz with 100 and some odd megs of RAM, and a 3.2 gig HDD. I suppose it will be plenty.

I feel like posting again, althought he said "thanks" ... Make sure your RAM is a good brand ram. I've had SO MANY different problems due to my RAM in win2k. It rebootes/freezes if either your ram isnt good or you have two different rams that have a little conflict with each other

Since nobody has actually given you the exact minimum recommended by Microsoft, i thought i would !

Make sure you're hardware is on the HCL (Hardware compatability List)
