How do you guys work up a layout?

I used to just have ideas come to me, but I'm sitting here with a stalled brain when trying to think of one.

Copy them from someone else Seriously though it's probably best to just find some nice sites and take a little bit of each of them. Most sites look the same anyway

Usually, that moment of inspiration comes to me after hours of brainstorming, when I'll be relaxing or doing something non-computers related. Like smoking, peeing, shaving or watching Television.

I'd agree with Rick Bull to an extent, get a general idea from some other website, modify it to your satisfaction. Or watch some news channel, specifically business shows. They have 'inspiring' layouts, which you'll obviously have to modify to suit a web page.

Did I mention smoking?
