as far as I know, all you have to do is uninstall IE6, and IE5 should reinstall automatically

Pfft. Download IE5 from the Microsoft website. I'm sure its there. Then uninstall IE.
Whats your problem with caching?

You can turn it off in the options somewhere.
FWIW, IE6 actually supports CSS better than IE5 or 5.5 - you need version 6 for certain things to work correctly at all.

Good Ol' Platypus
You know IE4 filters? They are only supported in Major versions for some reason.. 4.2 (I think) and 5.5 don't support them, but 4, 5, and 6 do.. a weird little tidbit for you there.

Netscape is buggy and crashes often, not to mention bloated. Opera isn't bloated, but has a horrible rendering engine.
Given the choice between the two I'd take Netscape-- a little bloat never hurt anyone.

The newest version of Opera is fine. Its windowing system is a lot better than the tabs of Mozilla based browsers, although I do like Mozilla better. Netscape itself has been pretty much turned into an irrelevant marketing tool for AOL-Time Warner.

I have the latest version of Opera, and it is not a good browser, not nearly as good as IE. Moz on the other hand stands a flying chance. I still like IE the best though.

Stuck in the 80s
My favorite thing about IE is when it gets an illegal error and decides it needs to restart explorer.exe too, causing all my tray icons to disappear.
Probably an ME thing rather than IE, but MS deserves a b-slap for it.

Remember you'll need to set IE5 as your deafult browser after you re-install it!

I'm twice had a Windows Update IE upgrade prevent Explorer from running at all.

Well, I like IE 6 very much because it always asks you to send private information to MS if it has crashed again.....

Hasn't asked me to do that yet. Just freezes and restarts Explorer all the time. Maybe I'm scrolling too fast or something?

No IE 6 gives always such a nice screen: "IE has conflicted and needs to be restarted. Do you want to send a report to MS containing information about the error? Click HERE"
And in the policy explanation for sending the error report it states that MS will take your creditcard number and add it to their db....

My browser evolution went like this:
IE3 > NS4 > NS4.7 > IE4 > IE5 > IE6 > Mozilla..... havent regretted the decision to go Mozilla. In fact I like it a lot better. No more pop up ads.
Sites load faster. And it's skinnable too... no longer looks like NS.

I would have to say IE6 is the best browser, if your system doesn't suck.

Goto http://www.mozilla.org/
On the right is the download section. Just select the proper OS and version you want (1.1 has some fixes from 1.0.1 - and I would quite recommend 1.2 just yet)

I personally went
Mosaic > NS1 > NS2 > NS3 > NS4 > IE5 > IE5.5 > IE6 > Mozilla > Phoenix
and I've intermittantly used Lynx in there somewhere.

talkback enabled Full Installer .exe (10.6 MB) for reporting crash data. If you don't understand what the other Win32 builds are, then get this build. Also available in

Yeah, for Mozilla. I've Mozilla runs a little faster if you do a custom install and install as little as possible, but I've tried it and it doesn't seem to make a difference to me. However, enabled HTTP pipelining in the options does make a difference.
If you are interested, the Mozilla based Phoenix browser comes as a zip file you can just unzip and run, no install needed. You can install that and Mozilla at the same time. You can even install multiple versions of Mozilla if you install to different folders each time.
